The body of an unidentified person was located Sunday morning in a submerged vehicle authorities had discovered in the White River near Mountain View.

Stone County Sheriff Brandon Long said deputies were dispatched around 6 a.m. to the Sylamore area on a report of a vehicle in the White River near Highway 9 leading into Izard County.

After deputies located the vehicle several yards from the river bank, officials from the Izard County Sheriff’s Department, Arkansas Game and Fish, the Allison Sylamore Fire Department, and the Arkansas State Police responded to assist. After a few hours, emergency crews were able to pull the vehicle onto the river bank, where they discovered the body inside.

According to a report from Izard County Sheriff Charley Melton, the vehicle was a passenger car, and all the responding agencies, along with the Izard County Coroner’s Office, are working on the case. Long said his department will continue to assist the Izard County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police in any needed capacity.

Long said no further details are being released at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Department at (870) 368-4203 or the Stone County Sheriff’s Department at (870) 269-3825.
