West Batesville man charged with firearm violation

A West Batesville man has been charged in Independence County Circuit Court with being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. The charge is a felony.

Robert G. Vaughn, 22, was arrested Nov. 23 after being stopped while he was driving his truck and repeatedly crossing the yellow line, according to authorities. The incident on Hwy. 167 North, near Hawg’s Exxon in Batesville.

When he was pulled over, Vaughn was charged with a class-A misdemeanor, driving while intoxicated, and since he had a Remington 700 rifle in the back seat of his truck, he was also charged with being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Previously convicted felons are not allowed to own or be in possession of a firearm.

Vaughn’s bond was set at $2,500.
