One football coach remains at Lyon from previous staff

White River Now first reported to you that Kyle Phelps had resigned from the head football coaching position at Lyon College on Nov. 27. Then on Dec. 1, Phelps released a statement that alluded his departure from Lyon was “not a mutual decision.”

Now, according to former special teams coordinator and linebackers coach John Hair, the rest of the football staff has not been retained under new head coach Casey Creehan and have been relieved of their duties as of Monday, Dec. 11 with the exception of coach Nick Palese.

In a comment provided to White River Now, Lyon College athletics director, Kevin Jenkins said:  “As a matter of policy, Lyon College does not comment on personnel matters. We do very much appreciate your interest, though.”

Coach Hair told White River Now that it was his understanding that he would be paid through Dec. 22. He did not want to comment on any of the other staff as he was not aware of their terms of dismissal.

At press time according to the athletic website, Nick Palese is still shown to be the recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach for the program in his fourth season of service. Ryan Morrow is also shown to be the offensive line/strength and conditioning coach, but according to Batesville High School athletics director and head football coach, Dave King, Morrow will joining the Pioneer football staff at the first of the year.

Offensive coordinator Shawn Daniel, defensive coordinator Del Howard, Andy Rogers, Damon Frenchers and John Hair no longer appear on the website, and it is unclear as to how the search for a new staff is heading.

An attempt to get a comment from the new head coach Casey Creehan on the matter through Lyon’s Sports Information department has been void as well. We will bring you more on the Lyon Football program as the information is made available.
