ASP: Batesville woman killed in early a.m. accident Saturday

Arkansas State Police (ASP) recorded the state’s first 2018 fatal crash after a Batesville woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Independence County.

Ashley Renae Carter, 28, was eastbound in a 2005 Mercury Mariner when she failed to negotiate a curve in the 600 block area of Oak Grove Road, according to Cpl. Jeremy Hughes of the ASP in his preliminary fatal crash summary.

The vehicle left the roadway, landed in a ditch, overturned, and Carter was ejected, according to the summary. Weather conditions were reported clear and the road condition dry. The time of the accident was reported as 12:28 a.m.
