Batesville man, probable passenger in fatal crash, arrested on outstanding warrants

Sgt. Michael Moody with the Independence County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Audubon Street in Batesville around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning to assist Arkansas State Police (ASP) in locating a child of a deceased driver, Ashley Carter.  Carter was a fatality in an accident earlier that morning on Oak Grove Road in Independence County.

Moody had been provided with a picture of a possible passenger and possible person who called in the accident to 911. The sergeant found a man matching the description of the person in the picture walking in the area and took him into custody. The man, Danny Lee May, 30, of Newport Road in Batesville was wanted on four warrants.

Moody transported May to the Independence County jail and served him with three of the warrants, according to the report.  The other warrant was out of extradition distance.

May was also placed on a hold for Cpl. Jeremy Hughes of the ASP who was working on his investigation report of the fatal accident on Oak Hill Road and needed to talk with May about the incident.
