911 hangup from reported teen runaway leads officers to Brushy Road residence

A 911 call sent officers Saturday evening to Brushy Road in Independence County. The call was from a 15-year-old juvenile female who had been reported as a runaway the day before to the Batesville Police Department. The female said she could not breathe, and she needed an ambulance and hung up.

Officers were not given the address but found a residence in the 500 block of Brushy that had all the lights on inside. No adults were present, only juveniles. Officers were directed by another female juvenile to a bedroom where they found the 15-year-old.

Officer Justin Kirk said the girl smelled of alcohol and said she had also smoked marijuana. Kirk said he saw “hickies” on the girl’s neck and asked her if she had been assaulted to which she replied “No.”

She was given an alcohol breath test where she tested .116. The female was then placed into a patrol car to be taken to the juvenile detention center for possession of an alcoholic beverage by a minor.

The other juveniles in the house were instructed to call their parents. Kirk spoke to the mother of the residence, and she returned home. Kirk said he was informed other juveniles were being driven around by a man, and they would soon be back.

When the vehicle showed up, it was occupied by an adult male, Migel Gomez, 25. He did not have a driver’s license and was taken into custody for driving without one. Kirk said Gomez also smelled of alcohol. An open beer can and remnants of cannabis were found in his vehicle.

All juveniles were removed from the residence by their parents or guardians.  Gomez was taken to the Independence County Jail, and the 15-year-old runaway female was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
