Former Independence County Tax Assessor Sue Coots passes

A long-time former Independence County Tax Assessor passed away Wednesday at Woodlawn Heights Nursing Home in Batesville.  Gwendolyn Sue Coots was 76 years old. Her home of residence was Floral, Ark.

Sue served six years as deputy tax assessor under I. J. Shaw and then served the next 18 years as assessor.   She was a member of the Floral Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer for 31 years.

Survivors include her husband, Dick Coots of the home;  a daughter, Sheila Devan and husband Stephen; a brother Bill Bailey of Michigan; two granddaughters and a great-grandson.

Funeral Services will be Saturday 10 a.m. at the Floral Baptist Church with burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery at Floral.  Visitation will be Friday, between 5 and 7 p.m. at Qualls Funeral Home in Batesville.
