siren-1-4

A man has been charged in Independence County Circuit Court with stealing laptops and cell phones from Walmart in Batesville.

According to the court information in the Affidavit of Probable Cause for Arrest, 29-year-old Jason Michael Brown, on more than one occasion, entered Walmart in Batesville where he allegedly busted display locking pegs that held laptops and cell phones in the electronics section of the store. Store video showed he would apparently take the items to one of two other places in the store.

Brown is shown by store video taking items to the hardware department where he would put them into a backpack and then leave the store. At another time, he would enter the pet department where he would apparently hide the items to be removed from the store at a later time.

In all, the value of the stolen items and damage done to mounting devices total almost $2,600.

Brown is charged with one count of commercial burglary, one count of felony theft, and one count of misdemeanor theft.

He is also being charged as a habitual offender.
