UPDATE: Independence County Judge Robert Griffin has also requested for all county flags to be flown at half-staff. “I am happy to lower the flags as well in honor of Chief Sims,” the judge said.

In honor of the over 20 years of service in local law enforcement at the Independence County Sheriff’s Department by the late Chief Deputy Jeff Sims, Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh has requested flags in Batesville to fly at half-staff.

“I am very happy to lower flags in honor and appreciation of a good friend, and outstanding law enforcement officer, Jeff Sims,” Mayor Elumbaugh told White River Now.

Independence County Judge Robert Griffin said he lowered the flag at the dispatch office to half-staff.

“I am waiting to see if this fits the protocol from the Association of Arkansas Counties concerning other county flags,” Judge Griffin added.  “I don’t know if we have the authority for a natural causes event.”
