siren-lights-2

A Stone County man was shot to death early this morning (Friday, March 23) during an incident in the Round Mountain area.

Deputies were called to a residence on Cedar Creek Road about an intoxicated man who was threatening the complainants and had a firearm in his possession.

Minutes later, dispatch informed responding officers an intruder had been shot at the residence.

Sheriff Lance Bonds said deputies found a man lying on the floor, just inside the residence, deceased, and with a rifle by his side.

An investigation revealed that the deceased suspect had unlawfully entered the residence, armed with a rifle.  He was confronted by the homeowner who, in fear for his and his family’s safety, fired upon the armed suspect, killing him.

Sheriff Bonds said the case is still under investigation and the Arkansas State Police have been called in to head the investigation.

Sheriff Bonds said the identity of the deceased man is being withheld until notification of next of kin.
