The American Midwest Conference (AMC) office announced the eight teams for the upcoming AMC Baseball Tournament Sunday night, and the Lyon College baseball team earned the top overall seed in the field. This will be the first time in program history the Scots will enter the tournament as the No. 1-seed.

The tournament will take place at a neutral site for the first time in tournament history. The event will be held on May 2-5 at Joe Becker Stadium in Joplin, Mo. The tournament will be played out as a double-elimination bracket.

Lyon will face No. 8-seed Central Baptist College in its first game of the tournament on May 2, at 10 a.m. The Scots swept the regular-season series against the Mustangs this year. Lyon won both games of a doubleheader on Mar. 13 at Scots Field by scores of 7-2 and 10-0, before completing the sweep with an 11-0 victory on Apr. 4 in Conway, Ark.

The Scots finished the regular season at 34-13 overall and 22-7 in the conference. Lyon is currently ranked 12th in the NAIA Baseball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.

Freed-Hardeman will enter the tournament as the No. 2-seed, while Missouri Baptist and Columbia will come in as the No. 3 and No. 4-seeds, respectively. William Woods, Harris-Stowe, Lindenwood-Belleville and Central Baptist round out the field.

The Scots earned one of the two automatic bids from the AMC for the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round after winning the regular-season title. The second automatic berth will be the AMC Tournament Champion, or the tournament runner-up if the Scots win the conference tournament.
