White River Health System (WRHS) has announced the certification of Deanna Nast, as a Certified Heart Failure Nurse (CHFN) Practitioner by the American Association of Heart Failure Nurse (AAHFN), according to Gary Bebow, CEO of WRHS.

Certification promotes the highest standards of practice for clinicians caring for patients with congestive heart failure. The candidates for certification are required to meet practice requirements and demonstrate a specialized knowledge of heart failure and disease management. Certification exams are offered at an annual conference in June or at local computer testing sites. Currently, only four nursing professionals in Arkansas have achieved the CHFN certification.

“Deanna’s commitment to life-long learning and patient care provide the foundation for excellent patient care,” said Bebow. “As the provider in our WRMC (White River Medical Center) Heart Failure Clinic, Deanna’s skills are improving the health and quality of life for patients living with congestive heart failure.”

The WRMC Heart Failure Clinic is located inside the Diagnostic Clinic at WRMC located at 3443 Harrison St. in Batesville. The clinic uses a multidisciplinary approach to optimize the health of patients living with heart failure. The program includes medication management, personalized care plans, patient education, and when needed referrals to community health and social services. The heart failure care team includes cardiologists, dieticians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and primary care providers.

“Our community deserves a program that upholds the highest standards of care to improve their quality of life,” said Nast.

Nast is a Batesville native. Her husband, Ryan Nast, and their four children live in Batesville. Her children are sixth generation Batesville natives. Deanna developed a passion for nursing as a candy striper at age 16. She worked as a patient care tech on WRMC’s third floor while attending nursing school. In 2003, she graduated from Harding University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 2010, she earned a Masters in Nursing from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Her nursing experience includes bedside nursing in the intensive care unit and advance practice registered nurse experience in surgery, internal medicine, hospital medicine, and cardiology.

Nast serves as an adjunct instructor for the registered nurse program at University of Arkansas Community College of Batesville (UACCB) and is a published author with articles printed in the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She presented at an education session of the National Nurse Practitioner conference in Las Vegas.

“I get great joy from sharing knowledge, whether it is to my patients, co-workers, or students,” said Nast. “I find that learning is a reciprocal process because I learn something new every day, and I cherish my interactions with my patients as they also have a lot to teach me.”
