newsbackground-1-13

Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call Wednesday, May 23, which led to the arrest of an Independence County man.

According to the court records, just before 4 a.m. Sgt. Brett Ward and Dep. Kyle Tucker went to Misty Lane on the domestic and encountered 47-year-old Rickey Leon Porter.

While being questioned outside the residence, Porter allegedly dropped some material on the ground and tried, without success, to step on the material and hide it. However, officers saw his actions and recovered the material and asked Porter what it was.

According to the court information, his answer was “crystal methamphetamine.” Later, it did test positive as methamphetamine.

Porter was taken to jail on the possession of methamphetamine charge.  Since he has previously been convicted of two felonies, he is now being charged under the Habitual Offender Act.
