An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for an Independence County man accused of beating and injuring a woman after she refused to have sex with him.

The incident occurred on April 28 in the 100 block of Dry Run Circle with sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call that reported a man was beating and kicking a woman in the front yard of a residence.

Upon arrival of the deputies, they reported they found a man identified as 59-year-old Roger L. Naulls standing over a female, Brittney Barber, having a verbal argument. Deputies observed that Barber had “…swollen and discolored eyes, bright red marks on her neck and apparent dry blood on her lips.”

Barber told deputies that she knew Naulls and that Naulls became angry and physically attacked her because she refused to have sex with him.

Naulls struck Barber so hard the blows fractured some ribs and left bruises and abrasions on multiple sites of her body necessitating a three day stay in the hospital, according to court records.

Holly Meyer, the 16th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, has charged Naulls with battery in the second degree. Naulls is also being charged as a habitual offender, with a bond set for $30,000.
