UPDATED: June 20, 2018, 1:37 p.m.

A fire behind a strip mall early Tuesday afternoon atop Ramsey Mountain sent smoke that could be seen for miles.

Southside Fire Chief Jeremy Loggains said the structure that caught fire was about a 40′ x 100′ building with the blaze on the end of building occurring in about a 40′ x 50′ area, causing a total loss in that section. Two vehicles and a motorcycle that were stored in the building were saved, Loggains said.

Burning trash on a dry, windy day was the culprit, according to the chief.

Loggains told White River Now his department turned out in force and appreciated the assistance from the Batesville and Desha Fire Departments.

White River Now was live on location at a structure fire this afternoon in Southside as crews from the Southside Fire Department teamed with the Batesville Fire Department and the Desha Volunteer Fire Department fought to bring the blaze under control.

The structure was a line of metal buildings just off Allen Chapel Road. No injuries were reported at the time. We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
