The Batesville Police Department have arrested and charged two men with burglaries at two Neeley Street homes in Batesville, along with theft of property.

In the department’s Affidavit of Probable Cause for Arrest, investigators say 20-year-old River Don Eugene White of Runway Road and 23-year-old Brandon Tyler Lay of Cord Road both entered the houses and stole items.

One break-in by Lay occurred on Friday, June 15, and two more burglaries occurred on Saturday, June 16, authorities say. Police had the two in custody within a matter of minutes after the break-ins on Saturday, June 16.

The stolen items from the homes were found in their vehicle. In addition, White was found to be in possession of a substance that tested positive as methamphetamine. Both men were placed into custody at the Independence County Detention Center.

Police detectives have presented information to the prosecuting attorney asking for White to be charged with residential burglary, possession of a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine and felony theft of property. Police say Lay should be charged with three counts of residential burglary and one count of theft.
