Batesville City Council to hold special session Thursday

newsbackground-1-21

The Batesville City Council will meet in special session late Thursday afternoon, June 28, to consider an ordinance as recommended by the city’s Planning Commission which would change the city’s zoning code.

The change is necessary to allow for a facility to help children heal from abuse while holding offenders accountable.  The facility is called a Children’s Advocacy Center. It is a child-focused, community-based facility that coordinates the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child abuse while reducing the trauma to child victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect.

The facility may only operate as a non-residential use, but preferably in a residential or semi-residential environment. The council will meet in the Batesville Municipal Building at 500 E. Main St. in Batesville, Thursday, at 5:30 p.m.
