White River Health System earns continued accreditation for residency program

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently announced an advancement of accreditation for White River Health System (WRHS). In October of 2015, WRHS received initial accreditation which allowed the organization to begin developing a residency training program. This September, the ACGME advanced WRHS’s Institutional Sponsorship to “continued” accreditation. This places the organization on a ten-year review cycle of accreditation as an institution that provides residency training.

The WRHS Internal Medicine residency program currently has enrolled twenty residents. More than 2,000 applications have been received for the resident class of 2022 beginning July 2019.

An internal medicine residency is a three-year period of medical training and education in internal medicine for physicians after graduation from medical school. Upon completion of an accredited residency, a physician is eligible to practice medicine.

“I am proud of our graduate medical education team’s continued hard work and dedication to develop the program and achieve continued accreditation for the system,” said Gary Paxson, WRHS successor CEO. “The Internal Medicine Residency will enhance our physician recruitment efforts and ensure access to medical care for our residents.”
