Drivers will now see a lower speed limit on Highway 167 from the Batesville Municipal Airport to the new fire station in Southside. The speed limit was lowered from 55 to 45 mph.

According to the Southside, Arkansas Facebook page, the city council has received several requests from the citizens to petition the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT) for a lower speed limit through Southside on Highway 167 over the past three years.

The city cites, “numerous accidents on this highway with 2 deaths just last year” and states their goal is to, “reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities” in the area.

New speed limit signs were posted Jan. 2 indicating the change. The city also states the lower speed limit should “…add less than a minute to your trip.”
