LISTEN: Gary B. talks flooding in Independence County with OEM Coordinator Glen Willis

There were several incidents and road closings in the area caused by the heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding.

In Batesville, the usual areas were affected. For example, in the southern part of west Batesville where some housing is located north of Polk (or Poke) Bayou, some water did come in, but no rescues were necessary.

Soft ground from the heavy rainfall also caused a tree to fall across the highway from the Batesville Fire Station on White Drive. Firemen were quick to take on the task and remove it from the roadway. One fireman on duty said it sounded like a vehicle wreck when the tree slammed onto the highway.

In rural areas of Independence County, there were some road closures.

White River Now’s Gary B. visited with the county’s Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Glen Willis about some of the closures.
