Authorities found the body of an elderly man in the flood waters of the Black River over the weekend.

The man, Loyd Cockrell, 76, had been traveling to Batesville on State Highway 37 Friday to make a delivery. Cockrell’s last reported location was near Elgin, according to officials. His body was found on a road near the river early Saturday morning.

Officials with the Independence County Sheriff’s Department say Cockrell appeared to have driven around a series of barricades authorities had erected on the road to protect people from the rising water.
