white-river-now-news-blue-1-5

In the March 11 meeting of the Independence County Quorum Court, Treasurer Bob Treadway reported there was a 10.51 percent increase in the one-cent countywide sales tax collections for the month of February.

The numbers are actually from sales in December. The figures were sent to the state in January and then returned to counties in February. So, it appears Christmas sales were up last December.

The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and the county’s fire departments each received $145,053 as their share of collections.

Treadway also reported that each of the major accounts: county general ($633,398.84), county roads ($1,115,680.24), solid waste ($872,088.64), and juvenile detention ($32,373.77) had positive balances as of Feb. 28 of this year.
