Southerners walk away victorious after two games Thursday

The Southerners played two games on Thursday in the Sylvan Hills Invitational in North Little Rock. The Southerners dropped the first game to the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats 8-3.

The game was knotted at 0-0 until North Little Rock scored 2 runs in the third inning. The Wildcats ended with 8 runs, 5 hits, and 2 errors.

The Southerners were able to score 3 runs in the sixth inning behind RBI’s from Cole Langston and Jared Ganus. Southerners collected 3 runs on 6 hits from Bo Trucks, Cole Langston (2), Jared Ganus, Gage Wood, Will Sitkowski and Caden Huskey.

Braden Jones threw 5 innings giving up 3 hits and 3 earned runs while Cole Langston pitched the sixth inning giving up one hit and not surrendering any runs.

The Southerners bats came to life in game two with 17 hits as they beat Alma 13-8. Payton Walls, Jared Ganus, Caden Huskey and Will Sitkowski all had 3 hits.

Cole Langston tacked on two hits while Bo Trucks, Braden Jones and Landon Haas also had hits on the night.

Payton Walls pitches 6 innings giving up 4 runs and getting the win. Cole Langston came in to close the game out in the seventh innings.

The Southerners are 5-4 overall, 4-2 in conference play.
