Batesville man killed in ATV accident on Jamestown Loop

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) is reporting a Batesville man has died after the all-terrain vehicle he was driving failed to negotiate a curve Saturday evening.

One other person who was a passenger on the ATV was injured and taken to a local hospital, according to the Preliminary Fatal Crash Summary from the ASP. Independence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the incident with Chief Deputy Aaron Moody noted as the investigating officer.

According to the report, Archie H. Sams, 38, was driving with his passenger north on Jamestown Loop in Independence County around 7 p.m. when the ATV did not make the curve and left the roadway, ejecting the occupants.

Sams was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.

The report notes the road was dry, and the weather conditions clear.
