A 22-year-old Independence County woman is being charged as a habitual offender after she was found with illegal drugs and paraphernalia during a traffic stop.

Krista Renee Jeffries was the passenger in a vehicle stopped by authorities on a traffic violation when she was found with the drugs and paraphernalia, according to court info. Jeffries was also wanted on an absconder warrant out of Independence County.

The Independence County Circuit Court information said since Jeffries was also found to have been previously convicted of four felony charges, she would therefore be tried as a habitual offender.

Her arrest came as part of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Action Team’s (CAT) weekend sweep.

Jeffries bond was set at $5,000.
