Special Olympics athletes from a dozen of the regions schools and the area’s adult chapter made the journey to Pioneer Stadium at Batesville High School on Friday, April 12 to compete in Area 16 games.

Students proudly representing Cedar Ridge, Hillcrest, Southside, Heber Springs, Batesville, Concord, Cave City, Izard County Consolidated, Midland, White River Academy, Calico Rock and Mountain View school districts participated in the all-day event, competing in games such as Cross Country, Flag Football and many others.

The Arkansas chapter of Special Olympics was founded in 1970 serving to, “to provide year–round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic–type sports for children and adults with an intellectual disability, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
