One ends up in jail; the other in the hospital.

On April 18, Stone County authorities were called to a Fifty-Six, Ark., residence where they found an elderly woman lying on the floor in pain. The woman said she and her husband were arguing when he pushed her to the floor causing injury. She was transported to the hospital and her husband, Benjamin A. Rand, 67, was arrested and taken to jail, according to authorites.

At the hospital, the woman was found to have suffered a broken bone in her left arm and injuries to her left foot. The court record said the woman was sent to surgery due to the significance of her injuries.

The suspect, Benjamin Rand, stated in an interview with authorities the two were arguing. Rand told Lt. Dammon McGilton that his wife, “got up in his face and he just held up his hands and her hands touched his and she just flew backwards and broke her arm when she tried to catch herself,” according to the affidavit of probable cause for arrest.

Benjamin Rand is charged with domestic battery in the second degree, a felony. His bond has been set at $10,000.

The affidavit noted the couple has been married for over 30 years.
