Two Mount Pleasant men have been arrested and charged with theft of property and criminal mischief involving missing road signs throughout Izard County.

Izard County Sheriff Earnie Blackley says Landon Edwards, 19, and Adrian Black, 19, have each been charged with 26 counts of theft of property and 26 counts of criminal mischief. Both men were jailed and each placed a $1,000 bond to be released from custody.

Theft of property and criminal mischief each carries a fine of up to $1,000 per charge and up to a year in jail — or a combination of both. Edwards and Black are scheduled to appear in Izard County District Court on May 9.

Blackley said when road signs are removed, it hampers emergency vehicles responding to calls which could be life-threatening.
