White River Health System welcomes new director of surgical services

Colleen Canfield (pictured) has been welcomed as director of surgical services by Gary Paxson, president and CEO of White River Health System, according to a press release.

Canfield leads the surgical services team, which includes surgical pre-admission,
pre-operative/post-operative care, operating rooms/endoscopy suites, and central sterile processing. She is responsible for operational performance including clinical quality, patient satisfaction, resource allocation, and staffing.

Canfield has an associate degree in nursing from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She also received a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi. In 2018, she furthered her education and received a master’s of science in nursing from Western Governors University.

“I want to be a patient advocate by putting a heavy focus on the standards and recommendations by credentialing institutions,” said Canfield. “I want to make a difference through leadership and being a personal example.”

Canfield has over 25 years of operating room experience. She dedicated 19 years to serving patients as a certified nurse operation room before pursuing roles in leadership. She began her career at White River Medical Center in February as an operating room manager before her promotion to director.

Canfield has stayed involved throughout her education. She received highest honors when graduating with her bachelor’s of science in nursing.

“Colleen’s expertise and desire to provide passionate and quality care to patients make her a great fit for the position,” said Paxson. “We are proud to welcome her to the team.”

Canfield was born in New Jersey however, she called Mississippi growing up. She has lived several places within and outside of the U.S. before recently settling down in Batesville. Canfield and her husband have three children.
