Howard House Memorial Golf Tournament scores big

The third annual Howard House Memorial Charity Golf Tournament was in full swing earlier this month at The Course at Eagle Mountain in Batesville.

According to a press release from First Community Bank, the presenting sponsor, the tournament exceeded the previous year in both revenue and player participation.

“We are so appreciative of the support for this tournament,” said Dale Cole chairman and CEO of First Community. “Not only did it grow in number of sponsors, it filled up with golfers and had a waiting list of teams wanting to participate. The purpose of the tournament is twofold: first, to pay tribute to Howard L. House, one of the founders of the Eagle Mountain Golf Course and major developers in our community, and second, to generate funding for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Independence County.”

The local Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) opened its doors to child abuse victims in November 2018, at 510 E. Boswell St. The CAC in Batesville covers Independence, Izard, Stone, Sharp, and Fulton Counties. All services are provided at no cost to child victims of abuse or their families.

“The outpouring of love and support for this tournament warms my heart,” said Dianne Lamberth, daughter of the late Howard House. “The idea of honoring my dad while doing something great for the community was at the suggestion of Dale Cole. I am very grateful to Dale and First Community Bank, the presenting sponsor. The tournament is such an expression of generosity from so many businesses, family members, friends, and associates. Great things really do happen when we work together for the good of our community.”

“Two hole-in-ones were hit during the tournament, but unfortunately they were not on a prize hole,” said Lamberth. “We had a tie for first place in the Championship Flight and several hole-in-ones on the putting contest. Those playoffs created even more excitement. Based on participant feedback and the record-breaking donations, I think everyone would agree that we scored big.”
