A man and woman were arrested yesterday in a shooting and theft incident in White County.

The White County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to Old Kensett Road and Whitney Lane on a claim by a male that he had been shot in the head, and his vehicle stolen. The victim was identified as Jeffrey Burton, 37, of Heber Springs.

Burton said he picked up a female he knew, identified as Crissa Miller (pictured above, left), 21, and gave her and her male friend a ride. During that process, Burton told authorities Miller’s friend, identified as Jake Brown (pictured above, right), 24, shot Burton in the head, and the two then took his vehicle and fled.

Authorities found the vehicle north of Bradford in Jackson County and later apprehended the two suspects, the department said. Brown is now charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder, aggravated robbery, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Miller is charged with conspiracy to commit capital murder and aggravated robbery. She was also wanted on several outstanding warrants.

Both Brown and Miller are scheduled to be in court tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 6, to enter a plea before a circuit judge.

As a side note, Bradford Public Schools went on lockdown yesterday during the time that Brown and Miller were being sought near Bradford.
