Dorothy “Dottie” Gilbert of Mountain View passes

We join a longtime and beloved member of our White River Now family, Karen Owens, in remembering the life of her mother, Dorothy “Dottie” Gilbert of Mountain View, who passed from this life on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the age of 95.

Dorothy was born on March 29, 1924, in Newnata, Ark. to the late Walter and Alice (Trammell) Patrick. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Newnata.

Dorothy was born during the Great Depression era. Her mother died of typhoid fever when she was 4., and her father went off to war leaving, eight children behind. She had many stories of eating Chinquapins and wild fruits and berries. She remembered walking miles to school and taking her lunch in a lard bucket. Dorothy was a giving person and always helped those in need. She was cheerful, quick with a smile and even a joke or two. Dorothy had a passion for quilting and owned Dottie’s Antiques. She was a wonderful homemaker for many years, and she loved her family and friends, all of which will greatly miss her.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Faye Farris and husband Buster of Beebe, Connie Sue Bengerno and husband Johnny of Palos Verdes Estates, Cal., Linda Horton and husband Jerry of Mountain View, and Karen Owens of Mountain View, Arkansas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alice (Trammell) Patrick; beloved husband of 48 years, Olen Raymond Gilbert; seven siblings, Elizabeth Patrick Williams, Bill Patrick, Silas Patrick, Jean Patrick Mingues, Maggie Patrick Hall, Jessie Patrick Roper, and Thomas Patrick; along with one grandchild, Kathy Bengerno.

Dorothy’s visitation will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow with the funeral to be held at 2 p.m. at the Roller-Crouch Chapel, located at 405 S. Peabody, in Mountain View, with Rev. Mike Sullivan officiating. Interment is at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newnata.

Pallbearers are Rick Farris, Jeremy Farris, Rodney Horton, Michael Bengerno, Sean Wells, John Bryant, John Mauldin, and Major Ryan Dewey.

Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View is in charge of the arrangements.
