The Humane Society of Independence County (HSIC) has set the 11th annual Bark in the Park at Batesville’s Riverside Park for Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 12 p.m.

Bark in the Park is a day for and about dogs, and everyone is invited to bring their dog and join the fun.

All sorts of activities are planned including the popular “weenie races,” according to Lynn Makarick, HSIC board member emeritus. A “Best Kisser,” “Best Booty-Wagger,” look-a-like, and costume contests will be held, and there will also be face painting for a $2 donation plus vendors, treats, and family photo opportunities.

Vendor spaces are available for $50. Each space is 10 x 10. To reserve a space, call Lisa Lambert at (870) 612-2621 or Alisa Lancaster at (870) 805-0798 for more information. You may also click here for sponsorship and vendor forms.

This note as well: The Humane Society of Independence County is really struggling to keep the doors open. The non-profit receives no government funding of any sort and relies strictly on adoption fees, public donations, and gifting, as well as fund-raising events like Bark in the Park. Other ways you can help this critically needed, non-profit organization is to patronize the Bargain Hound Boutique at 228 Ramsey St., where a lot of clothes are marked down to 50 cents each. You can also go to KrogerCommunityAwards.com and designate the Humane Society of Independence County as your community charity. You can also go to AmazonSmile.com and select the Humane Society of Independence County as your charity of choice.

The Humane Society of Independence County appreciates the community’s support in any form, be it volunteering, fostering a dog or cat for an overnight, weekend or longer, or by donating your cash to this very worthy cause.
