Yesterday, White River Now brought you the news that the Batesville office of the Arkansas State Revenue was closed for repair after the building suffered water damage this past weekend.

This afternoon, White River Now’s Gary Bridgman visited with Scott Hardin from the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration in Little Rock about the accident that caused the damage and a possible re-opening date for the office.

“Over the weekend, we were alerted that a vehicle hit a fire hydrant there very close to our revenue office in Batesville,” Hardin told Bridgman. “That resulted in the building flooding pretty severely. It really had quite a bit of water damage. We do lease that facility, so the building’s owner immediately had a crew in, drying out, pulling the carpet. Our hope was, ‘Maybe we could open Tuesday, maybe we could open Wednesday,’ but as we realized the severity of this, we realized it was going to take some time, and at that point, (we) opened the Cave City office for five days a week, just to give, at least, an option in the area, understanding that that is still quite a drive.”

Hardin says there is a “fifty-fifty” chance the Batesville office will open tomorrow (Friday), but it might have to wait until early next week.

“I think the worst case at this point would be Monday morning. The bad news is we have had four days, and understand the inconvenience that caused. The good news is, it should be close to over.”
