Obituary: Oleta Free

getprev-2-5

Oleta Free passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019. She has joined her parents, Clyde and Ethel (Debow) Hodges, and her only child, Jimmy Dale Free, in a wonderful place, Heaven.

She was also joined there by her four brothers, Raymond, Vernon, Kenneth, and Dean Hodges, along with a very special uncle, Claude Hodges. Many other family members and friends gathered there to meet her, also.

Oleta was born on Dec. 7, 1931, in Denmark, Arkansas. After a very short marriage, she found herself with a young son to raise. Oleta spent her life working hard for her little family; especially after her son had a brain aneurysm at age 30, and was paralyzed on one side of his body. This took a large toll on Oleta’s health.

She held the position of Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of Newport Schools for several years. Oleta was also very active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Newport.

Oleta is survived by a sister-in-law, Augusta Hodges of Texas, wife of Raymond. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and her special dog, Maggie. Johnny and Mary, his wife, have taken care of Maggie for the past few years.

Since her son passed away in June 2016, Johnny Hodges and Beverly Newman, her nephew, and niece have been her family caretakers. Her family would like to thank the Oakdale Nursing Facility for their care of Oleta.

Visitation will be at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Arrangements by Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home.
