A large crowd celebrated the lighting of a downtown Batesville Christmas tree Saturday night. The ceremony for the lighting of the tree, located in the Citizens Bank Pocket Park, was part of a day-long Main Street Batesville event, celebrating the season and Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday, billed as a more community-focused alternative to Black Friday shopping, is held every year across the country.
As part of the festivities, White River Now’s Gary Bridgman (pictured above) read a Christmas tale to children, the Southside School Madrigal Singers held a holiday performance, and Santa Claus also made an appearance.
To cap off the night, the Melba held a free screening of the comedy classic, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, as part of their annual seasonal film festival, A Very Merry Christmas. (Scroll down for the movies scheduled during the 2019 edition of A Very Melba Christmas.)
