Obituary: Tommy Charles Melton

Tommy Charles Melton, 83, of Batesville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019.

He was born on April 26, 1936, in Violet Hill, Arkansas to John Henry Melton and Jeffie (Blevins) Melton.

Tommy loved his family and loved his God; he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was an umpire for all leagues of ball and inducted into the Softball Umpire Hall of Fame; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Shelba Jean (Barnes) Melton; two sons, Marty Melton (Lisa) of Newark and Nickey Melton (Karen) of Batesville; one daughter, Tammy Hunzeker (Rusty) of Cave City; five grandchildren, Nicole Bledsoe (Kevin), Timothy Rainey (Melissa), Ashley Wheeler, Whitney Melton (Justin) and Corey Melton; nine great-grandchildren, Baylea, Jerrit, Scout, Asher, Emery, Beau, Lexi, Madeline and Mackenzie; two brothers, Lynn Melton of Batesville and Shelby “Chip” Melton of Batesville; and one sister, Myram Brewer of Springdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Willard Melton and Bill Melton.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church with Randy Scott and Larry Poff officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Saturday just prior to service at the church.
