A property owner walking along a fence line Thursday afternoon, a short distance off Interstate 40 near Mayflower at the 137 mile marker (eastbound), discovered a deceased male, lying in the grass, according to a release from the Arkansas State Police.

Mayflower police officers were called to the scene about 1:30 p.m. Shortly after their arrival, the local officers requested the Arkansas State Police to initiate an investigation.

Special Agents of the state police criminal investigation division are attempting to identify the body, which has been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory where a manner and cause of death will be determined and identity will be confirmed.

The body was found near the same area that Mayflower police officers stopped a truck late Wednesday night. The driver of the truck fled on foot from police, leaving behind a passenger who was taken into custody by local officers. The truck was later determined to have been stolen from the owners in Ozark.
