Claiming a duffel bag gets a man charged with drug-related felonies in Independence County Circuit Court.

According to court info, John Daniel Simpkins, Jr., 18, was a passenger in a vehicle pulled over for a traffic stop. During an investigation, officers from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department found a large red duffel bag containing marijuana, Xanax (a Schedule IV narcotic), a THC vape pen, 76 vape cartridges, one set of digital scales, and multiple plastic baggies commonly used in packaging illegal drugs for sale, the court documents said.

Simpkins, according to the probable cause affidavit, told the officers: “I take claim for what’s in the red bag.”

Simpkins, from Conway, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the purpose to deliver and possession of a Schedule IV narcotic — namely Xanax — with the purpose to deliver.

Simpkins posted a $1,000 bond and was released from jail.
