The Melbourne Bearkatz capped off a three-game sweep of Salem in boys’ basketball Tuesday night at Bearkatz Gymnasium.
The first half was an uncharacteristic shootout, as the Katz and Greyhounds traded baskets the entirety of the first and second periods.
After stretching the lead to as many as 14 early in the third quarter, Salem battled back, trimming the deficit to as little as two.
The Katz prevailed, however, using timely defense and late free throws to seal a 60-54 win.
Layton Hennings led the way for the Katz with 21 points, Gabe Lawrence added 11 and Riley Gray had 10.
