Obituary: Matthew Tubbs

Matthew Jacob “Matt the Rat Yo” Tubbs of Tuckerman, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at the age of 15.

He was born Feb. 10, 2004, in Newport, the son of Robbie Dale Tubbs, Jr., and Amanda Ellen (Henley) Hendricks.

Matthew was a sophomore at Tuckerman High School, where he was a member of the Cross Country and Track Team. He loved to run, and enjoyed art, agri, and spending time with his friends. He was active in school, helping in the concession stands during ballgames. Matthew was high energy, and when he set his mind to something, you could count on him to be all in.

He enjoyed hanging out with his Uncle Nick, playing video games, running, and lifting weights. Matthew had a sweet, loving spirit. He always made a point of telling his family and friends he loved them dearly. Matthew was so very loved by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandmother, Sandra Ellen Woods; a cousin, Jacob Trey Geaslin; his maternal great-grandmothers, Alma (Canard) Henley and Lela (Adams) Roberts; and maternal great-grandfather, Clay Juna Roberts.

Matthew is survived by his father and step-mother, Robbie, Jr., and Amy Casteel Tubbs of Benton, Arkansas; his mother and step-father, Amanda Ellen (Henley) and George Hudson Hendricks of the home; one brother, Jake Langham of Benton; four sisters, Mia Jillian Tubbs of Tuckerman, Shelby Mae Hendricks of Tuckerman, Sydney Rae Hendricks of Tuckerman, and Olivia Kate Tubbs of Benton; his maternal grandparents, Mary Ann (Roberts) Henley of Newport and Jimmy Harold Henley of Tuckerman; his paternal grandfather, Robbie Dale Tubbs, Sr., of Texas; grandparents, Christopher Hendricks and Kristi (Mandrel) Hendricks of Searcy, Donna Johnson and Patrick Allen of Searcy; great grandparents, Judy (Bice) Tubbs of Grubbs, and George and Arlene (Norvell) Hendricks of Bradford; many special aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved like brothers and sisters.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Cameron Lee, Dylan Henley, Taylor Henley, Patrick Green, Michael Holladay, Cade Essman, Cameron Holladay, and Anthony Holladay.

The THS Class of 2022 will be honorary pallbearers.
