The Melbourne Lady Bearkatz won their second consecutive Regional Championship Saturday night, 50-35 over the Marmaduke Lady Greyhounds.

After falling behind 11-7 early in the first quarter, the Lady Katz closed the half on a 28-8 run to take a 16 point lead into the halftime locker room.

Just like in the semifinal matchup, Melbourne had to weather a run in the early third quarter, as Marmaduke cut the lead to as little as seven points, but a three-pointer from Dani Hardaway got things back on track, leading 44-29 after three.

Marmaduke did all they could, but key rebounding and ball control lead the Lady Katz to the 50-35 victory.

Kenley McCarn led the way with 13 points, and Josie Roark and Jenna Lawrence followed with 12 points apiece.

The Lady Bearkatz will play Fordyce in the opening round of the Class 2A State Tournament at Quitman on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
