A passenger in a vehicle pulled over for traffic violations in Independence County on Tuesday was found to be in possession of an illicit substance.

Madelyn Nicole Hawkins, 20, of Oil Trough appeared extremely nervous when asked by authorities conducting the traffic stop to exit the vehicle.

As Hawkins got out of the vehicle, a baggie of methamphetamine remained in her seat.

Hawkins was taken into custody and is facing a felony drug charge.

The male driver was issued a traffic violation warning and released.
