The superintendent of the Batesville School District, Dr. Michael Hester, recently spoke with Gary Bridgman, news director for the White River Now media family, about why the school board decided to postpone the millage vote to help with improvements across the district, including additional instructional space, parking, traffic flow solutions, and on-campus student safety. The vote had been scheduled for April 14.

Dr. Hester told Gary B. one particular reason for the postponement was that it would have been too big of a health issue with the closings of the schools, the city’s community center, and other public places where voting polls would be placed.

“We are also being sensitive to the economic situation and status of our community, [so] the board decided to postpone the vote until a date to be determined once we see how all of this shakes out,” Dr. Hester said. “The needs are still there, but we are trying to be sensitive to not only the health, but the economics of the community.”
