local-news-team-82

In a media release Tuesday, the Batesville Police Department reported two Walmart shoplifting cases and an unsolved residential burglary.

In the shoplifting incidents, a 21-year-old male was caught shoplifting a toolset, and a 19-year-old female was caught at a self-check terminal scanning a bottle of lotion in the place of several other items that she was putting in a bag without scanning them.

Both were cited and given dates to appear in Independence County District Court.

The residential burglary was reported at a 19th Street residence. Officer Bryan Strickland reported the man who owned the residence said he was advised by his grandchildren that someone was in his house.

The man said he came home to find a rear sliding door ajar, a flat-screen TV in the back yard, and a Chromebook laptop on the porch. A pistol was also discovered missing. A “person of interest” was named in the case, which is still under investigation.
