Teen drowns near Sandy Beach at Greers Ferry Lake

According to a Facebook post by the Heber Springs Fire Department, personnel responded to a report of a missing 17-year-old near the Sandy Beach swim area of Greers Ferry Lake at approximately 9:25 p.m. Monday.

The call was immediately upgraded to a possible subsurface rescue, and the department activated a Lake Rescue Response which automatically notifies members from Heber Springs Fire Dive Team, Cleburne County Search and Rescue, and Arkansas Game and Fish officers.

After a methodical underwater search, divers recovered the body of the reported missing person. The incident is still under investigation, the post said.
