An Oak Hill man was arrested late Saturday night while the Independence County Sheriff’s Department was answering a trespassing call.

Sheriff Shawn Stephens said deputies found the suspect hiding in the 2100 block of Oak Hill Loop.

Stephens said when he asked the man why he was hiding in the woods, the response was that “people were after him.”

The sheriff said the 37-year-old man was intoxicated and admitted to recently using meth. He was placed into custody and taken to jail on the misdemeanor charge of public intoxication.

Sheriff Stephens also said Monday that his deputies had responded to four domestic violence calls over the weekend.  He said one arrest was made in one case.  He said in the other three cases, the victims did not want charges filed.
