Obituary: Sydney Claire Sutherland

Sydney Claire Sutherland of Tuckerman departed this life on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at the age of 24. She was born September 18, 1995, in Jonesboro, the daughter of Dion and Maggy (Williams) Sutherland.

Sydney grew up on the family farm in Grubbs with her two older brothers and many friends. She was a 2014 graduate of Tuckerman High School. While a student at THS, Sydney was known for her outgoing, sweet personality. She was active in Spanish Club, Beta Club, Key Club, and played softball for the Tuckerman Bulldogs, earning the title of Outstanding Senior. Her Senior quote was, “The meaning of life is to find your gift, the purpose of life is to give it away.” and she shared her many gifts throughout her 24 years.

Sydney attended ASU Newport, earning her LPN license in July of 2018. In December of 2019, she became a Registered Nurse graduating from the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. Sydney worked at Unity Health Harris Medical Center in Newport as an LPN and while earning her RN. She was loved by her coworkers and her patients alike. Sydney’s compassionate nature and genuine spirit endeared her to all who met her. She was truly a bright ray of sunshine.

Sydney loved to exercise, listen to books, and play with her dogs. Shopping was also one of her favorite past times. She especially enjoyed her family and cherished her time with them. Sydney loved being Sassy to her nieces, Mila and Leni.

She was a member of the Grubbs Church of Christ.

The memory of Sydney’s beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, kind heart, and loving spirit will live on in the hearts of her loving family and her many friends.

Sydney was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jimmy “Sam” and Doris (Nicholson) Williams; Bobby Sutherland, and Leslie and Vonnie Sutherland.

She is survived by her parents, Dion and Maggy (Williams) Sutherland of Tuckerman; two brothers, Tyler Sutherland and wife, Kristy, of Tuckerman, and Sam Sutherland and wife, Summer, of Tuckerman; two nieces, Mila Joe Sutherland and Leni June Sutherland; her first cousin, Brandon Williams of Jonesboro; her boyfriend, Alex Nicholson; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday at ASUN Center for the Arts, with Mr. Bryce Shelton and Mr. Paul McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhaw Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Sam Sutherland, Tyler Sutherland, Alex Nicholson, Zach Skaggs, Timmy Stevens, Orrie Allen, Brody Kagen, and Landon Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Best, Mikal Peyton, Garrett Montgomery, Hayden Metzger, Tyler Chatman, Cody Howard, Sam Nicholson, Brett Nicholson, Nick Nicholson, Jimmy Don Nicholson, James Sharp, Chris Sharp, Eddie Sharp, Ray Sharp, Paul McKinney, Stevie Alcorn, Gavin Oliver, Billy King, Andy Latting, Ryan Hutchinson, Dr. Michael Brown, Doug Sutherland, Shane Hutchinson, Employees of Harris Unity Medical Center and Employees of Dr. Kelly McKinney’s Dental Office.

Jackson’s Funeral Homes abide by the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and mandates by Governor Asa Hutchinson, requiring the wearing of masks and the practice of social distancing. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering the funeral homes. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation in following these guidelines.
