Mountain View Yellowjackets use strong rushing attack to kick off their 2020 season

The Mountain View Yellowjackets used a strong rushing attack and defense to kick off their 2020 campaign with a 36-7 victory over the Fouke Panthers.

Junior Quarterback Elijah Carlton scored his first of three rushing touchdowns on the second play from scrimmage with a 63-yard touchdown run to give Mountain View an early 6-0 lead that they would never relinquish.

The Yellowjackets finished with 416 yards of total offense, 374 of those yards came on the ground, and Carlton finished had 146 of those yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns.

He was also 1-2 passing for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Toby Philyaw and Junior Lane Miller each added a rushing touchdown, and Senior J’Air Jackson had one receiving touchdown.

Defensively the Yellowjackets held the Panthers to 52 yards of total offense on 18 plays in the second half.

Sophomore Landon Goins led the Yellowjackets with 10 tackles and Philyaw intercepted a Panther pass for the only turnover by either team on the night.

The Yellowjackets improved to 1-0 on the season while Fouke dropped to 0-1.

Mountain View will travel to Hoxie next week for another non-conference game.
