Obituary: Gary Wayne Victory

Gary Wayne Victory of Olyphant departed this life on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at his home. He was 73 years old. Gary was born March 3, 1947, in Newport, the son of Ralph Edward Victory, Sr. and Emma Lee Woodruff Victory.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Newport High School. He began working on V and V Farms at a young age and continued being involved in farming for his lifetime. Gary loved riding the many roads around his farm ground looking at the crops and fields. His greatest enjoyment in life came from traveling around the United States with his wife and children.

Gary enjoyed history and loved watching the History Channel and was very interested in the events surrounding World War II. Gary loved playing poker with friends.

Debbie Rutledge and Gary Victory married on August 6, 1976. Together they shared 44 years, raised two children, enjoy many travels, and great laughter.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his parents in law, Harold and Vernadene Rutledge, one brother in law, Harold R. Buddy Rutledge, and a nephew, Brice Johns.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie of the home; one son, Ashley Victory of Newport; one daughter, Jennifer Craig and husband, Aaron, of Little Rock. Also surviving, are a sister in law and brother in law, Kay and Rickey Johns of Little Rock and sister in law, Dianne Tims of Mobile, Ala.; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Gary will be forever remembered for his big welcoming smile, his kind and fun spirit and friendly nature.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Tuesday, September 15, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Arnold, Michael Tims, and Jerry Tims officiating. Interment will be in Sandhill Cemetery at Auvergne.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jimmy Walker, Larry Doyle, Arlon Woodruff, Mike Jones, Jimmy McCartney, Terry Don McMullin, Millard Eddington, and Jeff Stites. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Woodruff and Robert Gilliaum.
